When in Venice .....

As we were in Milan for 2 weeks we got a day off half way through our stay. The 4 of us in the stage management team decided on a day trip to Venice. It meant an early start for a walk to the main station and an 8.30am train to Venice.

2 and half hours later and we were there right on the Grand Canal.

A quick drink and then an ice cream (well it was very warm) and then we bought day tickets for the water buses and caught one to St Marks Square.

Doges Palace

Basilica di San Marco

There were big queues for the Basilica and the tower near it. We left Ed to brave the queues and wandered off towards the Ponte Vecchio.

Ponte Vechio
After we had found the Ponte Vecchio we just carried on wandering aimlessly. If we hit a main road we walked along it and took the next side road. We found a little trattoria down a side street and had a yummy lunch in the sunshine.

Then some more wandering and a coffee in a little square.

It can be quite a trek to your hotel in Venice!

Time for another ice cream!

Santa Maria della Salute

From Salute we caught one final water bus back to the train station. All the while checking our watches and calculating how long each stop was taking as we had managed to get on a slow boat during a busy time! Thankfully we managed to get back to the train station with about 10 minutes to spare! It was a great day wandering aimlessly in the sunshine.
