Perth - Rottnest Island

We've been in Perth just over a week and have a whole day off, so it's trip time. After breakfast the ladies headed to our favourite place - the train station to catch the train to Freemantle. This time we're going further than Cottesloe or Freemantle, we're picking up a boat from Freemantle over to Rottnest Island.

All aboard.

Leaving Freemantle.

Does anyone know him?!?!

Our first view of Rottnest Island.

We went on a guided tour to look for Quokka. These marsupials are only found on Rottnest and gave the island it's name.

Another picnic lunch on the beach.

This little guy came over to see if he fancied anything.

Our view over lunch - this is the life.

The beach at the Basin. We had a couple of hours postprandial lounging in the sun.

Proof that I have actually been for a swim.

We bumped into Mopsa and Dorcas on the beach. They'd won a competition on This Morning and were disappointed not to end up in Magaluf!

Having been on the guided walk to see Quokka this little fellow came over to say hello as we made our way back to the boat.

Drawn to the harbour wall by some familiar voices I spotted some of the cast enjoying themselves. They did well to make the boat as this was taken less than 10 minutes before it left!

The day finished in perfect style with a beer at the hotel and a barbecue with cast and crew in Kings Park. The city looks beautiful at night from up there with the lights of North and South Perth reflected in the river.

Perth - Fish and Chips

After a couple of days at the theatre teching and opening both shows we had a day free. Naturally this meant a trip to the beach. After an hour or so soaking up the sun and a quick dip in the sea we were all starving.

Janene went for a battered sausage.

The rest of us had fish and chips Auzzie style with grilled fish and lemon wedges.

Happy tech team.

Perth - Dirty Stop Out

When we arrived in Perth we were short one suitcase. C8 a case full of costumes had decided that Singapore looked pretty cool and it wanted to hang out there for a while. So our second day in Perth included a bit of retail therapy wardrobe style. Whilst Bridget our wardrobe mistress headed off to the suburbs to malls and vintage shops in search of combat trousers, army boots, flower power dresses and such like Janine and I headed to central Perth with our list. Our morning's task was to find pants, socks, shirts, evening gloves and a chiffon scarf. We found Target (TKMaxx), David Jones (Debenhams) and Meyr (BHS) and managed to find everything we'd been asked for. We also found Woolworths (which is a supermarket chain) so we stocked up on water and things for packed lunches.

The errant case finally showed up the following evening during the half for our first show, The Winter's Tale. The company wore their new shirts for the first half but a number cast members chose to wear their old favourites hauled out of the dirty laundry in C8 rather than break in something new. Thankfully Bridget was able to get everything laundered before the second show!

Perth - Icons of Influence

After a morning of costume shopping and a quick lunch at the hotel I headed back to the centre of Perth. I bought stamps from the main post office, dropped a few postcards home in the post box and went to the tourist information stand to pick up a walking guide. Perth - Icons of Influence.

Perth is a lovely city with lots of nice old buildings amongst the new high rises. It is very clean and with a grid system the streets are easy to navigate. There were a few more stops on the tour to visit but I skipped them in favour of a cold drink back in the hotel air-con!
